Welcome to IM2010

INFORMATION AS AN ASSET

These days you’ll find a lot of vendors claiming that Information Management is the instrument that will guide you through the current storm. I agree that Business Intelligence can help you identify and monitor cost savings, that Performance Management will support a tighter management process, and that Master Data Management will help you save money through more efficient business processes.

But since I assume that you have already picked most of the low hanging fruit in your company, there is little chance however, that Information Management will be the silver bullet that will save you from the current recession. Information Management is not a shrink-wrapped software product that will solve all your business pains from one day to another. Information Management is a long maturation process that involves complex strategic, organizational, architectural and technological issues.

I obviously cannot rule out that this conference may provide you with an idea for a quick win, but that’s not why you should participate. The real value lies in learning from experts and peers about securing your company’s long term success. Recession or not, the information age is still a major force. The automation and digitalization of your business is accelerating and the amount of information being created is growing accordingly.

Whether or not you should consider this recession a threat or an opportunity depends on your ability to govern, protect, maintain and use your information. Information Management can help you turn your information into a strategic asset – but only if you base your approach on a long-sighted vision, which is understood and shared by your senior management.
